What aircraft did you learn to fly in?

I learned to fly in a 1946 Talyorcraft. At the time I hated that plane. It had separate brake pedals from the rudder pedals, but that didn’t matter because the brakes didn’t work. When ever I flew it solo I had to wrap a tie down chain to the tail wheel when I propped it (I know dangerous as hell). My flight instructor weighed about 75 lbs more than me, so it was a whole different flight when he was in or out of the plane. No radio, just a handheld, and of the instruments it had I think the airspeed and altimeter were the only ones that worked correctly.

I hated that plane at the time, now I wish I had one :-)

I am curious what some of the pilots in here learned in, and what they ended up doing as pilots later on.

Does anyone Know the title or author of this book?

It’s a big picture-storybook I had when I was little about gnomes with beards, blue clothes, and red hats. (I remember crosshatching on their noses) They lived with (talking?) animals and each character had a different adventure. One dry summer a fire starts and they fly overhead and drop water to put it out. Another time a giant comes and squishes a shed, and the gnomes are angry but it turns out the giant had a toothache and just wanted some help. There were also little red-curly-haired tiny people who lived in the trunk of a tree and caused trouble. They drug and tie down one gnome like in Gulliver’s Travels and another time they march underwater and turn into fishes. I also remember fairies in flying chairs, if it’s any help.

How much does it cost to land a plane at a small airport? Pay for tie down? Pay for time parked there? Etc.

I hope to be a licensed pilot in the next 6 to 8 months and when I get my license I plan to buy a small plane. I am curious as to what it costs when you fly from airport to airport–other than fuel of course? I’m sure there is some kind of fee for landing at someone’s airport.
