The 1 ½ hr ferry ride from Blanc Sablon, Qb. To St. Barbe, NL cost only for up to 25′ vehicle and includes driver and an extra 7.50 for additional passenger…now that is a bargain! We had no problems getting on without a reservation but during the busy summer months on the weekends, it may be recommended to do so. Smooth sailing on calm blue sea on a gorgeous sunny day made our passage to Newfoundland very relaxing and enjoyable. We drove a scant 22 km before finding ourselves another FREE campsite right on the waters of Strait of Belle Isle at Plum Point. It had a lovely boardwalk along the shore and interpretive signs about Capt. James Cook and the history of the area. We then headed south stopping at every outport on small peninsulas seeing many small fishing villages with their boats in drydock and their lobster traps stacked neatly awaiting next season. I don’t know how there are any lobster left to catch after seeing mile after mile of stacks of traps. We enjoyed driving to Port au Choix to see the limestone barren where 3 kinds of plants exist that are NO where else in the world. NL has about 100+ species of plants of …
